What Is A Focus Group?

What is a focus group?

The definition of a focus group is...
"A demographically diverse group of people assembled to participate in a guided discussion about a particular product before it is launched, or to provide ongoing feedback."
It is basically a gathering of people who are answering targeted and specific questions in detail.

Why hold a focus group?

All research is good, however a focus group has many more advantages to other research. This is because the researcher can get qualitative information, a lot of opinions and views- that are not random and are focused on the product being analysed.

What are the advantages of a focus group?

Some of the advantages of completing a focus group is that the leader of the focus group can see where the discussion is going and then either try to develop on the answers being given or change to a new question if the discussion isn't working.
All the people at the group can consider each others points that they might not have thought of or gathered an opinion on themselves- this would be good as it would aid the discussion as they can agree/disagree with each other.

What are the disadvantages of a focus group?

If there is only a small group of people- all with very similar interests- then the discussion may not flow as well as wanted and the leader may not get many ideas or contributions as feedback. That would mean that it isn't a successful focus group.

How will a focus group help get advice for your music video?

It will help us get the advice that we want as we can structure what type of topics they discuss. We can also aid their conversation if we feel what they are talking about is not relevant to what we are doing.

What is the importance of a focus group?

By holding a focus group, it means we can get some good quality information from a range of audience perspectives. This is good for us because we can use the information when creating our music video- taking everything they said into consideration, and using it to our advantage- targeting our main audience, then at the same time inserting elements that could also target different demographics other than our specified target.
